A late goal by Dundee substitute Steven Milne gave the Tayside team a share of
the points in a 2-2 draw at Hibernian to keep up their unbeaten record this
season against the Easter Road men.
Derek Townsley had opened the scoring for the home side in the 15th minute
before Fabian Caballero hit back 18 minutes later.
New Scotland international Garry O'Connor looked to have secured victory for
the home side before Milne grabbed the late equaliser.
The first half had been bright and entertaining with both sides playing
without pressure in another meaningless post-split SPL game.
And, although the standards dropped in the second half, it was the home side -
with their greater appetite - who deserved the three points.
But in the end it was the visitors who escaped with a point with their last-gasp equaliser.
It was the home side who made the early running and within a minute striker
Craig Brewster had headed an Alen Orman cross from the left inches past Julian
Speroni's post.
Hibs looked the more composed with Brewster and O'Connor lively in attack and
it was the latter who shot high over from an acute angle after four minutes.
The game was entertaining enough with the play flowing from end to end and it
was the home side who took the lead in the 15th minute after a mistake by Dundee
keeper Julian Speroni.
Brewster did well to get a cross in from the right and the Argentinian came
out but misjudged the flight of the ball, leaving Townsley with an easy tap-in
from close-range at the back post.
Speroni looked even more desperate as the ball went under his body.
Moments later, with the Hibs defence stretched, keeper Tony Caig came out to
block Caballero's shot from 15 yards after the Dens striker had outstripped Gary
Smith.
Speroni made up for his earlier error with a good save at the feet of the
on-rushing O'Connor and the Dundee keeper again came up trumps with a fine block
from Brewster as Hibs piled on the pressure.
But, in the 33rd minute, it was the Dens men who equalised with a superb
goal.
Caballero picked up the ball 30 yards from goal, drifted past three Hibs
defenders before curling a short from the edge of the box into the far corner
giving Caig no chance.
The second half started brightly with both sides once again going straight
into attack mode.
In the 75th minute John O'Neil's corner from the right was met by Jarkko Wiss
15 yards from goal but his powerful header was tipped over the bar by Speroni
for a corner.
However, a minute later the home side took the lead.
O'Connor picked up a pass from Wiss wide on the left and, although nothing
appeared to be on, the teenager drove an unstoppable shot high past Speroni.
But, with only minutes remaining, Dundee substitute Steven Milne equalised
with a close-range header from a cross by Caballero.
