Hibernian booked their place in the last eight of the Tennents Scottish Cup
but hardly put on a vintage show for their travelling fans.
They needed two goals in the space of eight minutes in the second half for
them to assume control.
Clydebank, without a win in 25 league games, fought bravely without looking
threatening.
The struggling First Division side were forced to field manager Steve Morrison
- usually a midfielder - in goal as Colin Scott was ruled out with concussion.
He could hardly be faulted for any of the goals and would have been proud of
his side who battled until the end.
Hibs came from behind in the fourth round game at Easter Road to force a
replay.
But a lot of their play was edgy and lacked conviction following for
the 4-0 defeat at Aberdeen on Saturday.
Kenny Miller should have put them ahead after 10 minutes only to send the ball
into Morrison's arms when it seemed easier to score.
Stuart Lovell then headed wide and Franck Sauzee sent a snap shot over the
top.
Hibs eventually took the lead six minutes before the break when Lovell lashed
the ball home after good work by Russell Latapy.
Clydebank almost drew level a minute after the break when Nick Colgan beat
away a shot from Danny McKelvie.
But that effort only seemed to motivate Hibs who added a second in the 74th
minute through Dirk Lehmann after Morrison had fumbled a shot from Kenny
Miller.
Sauzee completed the scoring eight minutes from time with a splendid volley
from the edge of the area after Steve Murray had headed out a corner from
Latapy.
