DUNDEE UNITED REPORTS 1997-1998

Dundee Utd 1 Kilmarnock 1

Kilmarnock stretched their unbeaten run to seven games after sharing the spoils with Dundee United in a hard fought encounter at Tannadice.

United, their ranks boosted by new signing, Cameroon international Jean Jacques Misse-Misse, dominated the early stages and deservedly went ahead through a close range Robbie Winters strike inside a quarter of an hour.

Killie improved after the break pinning United back with a series of penetrating moves.

The visitors earned the point their second half performance deserved with a 22-yard strike from Mark Reilly in the 66th minutes.

United had put the Killie defence under pressure from the start, but it was the visitors who posed the first real goal threat with a strike from Jerome Varielle inside the first five minutes.

Ally Mitchell flipped the ball to the Frenchman just inside the box but his low shot was well saved by an alert Sieb Dykstra.

Misse-Misse showed a glimpse of his international talents when he beat two Killie defenders to feed Robbie Winters who's shot spun well wide of the target.

The home side's domination of play told in 15 minutes with a goal from Winters, his first Premier League strike since October.

From the re-start Killie took the game to United, a powerful Mitchell drive deflecting off Kevin McGowne just inches past Dykstra's left hand post.

Minutes later an optimist Wright thunderbolt from a Varielle lay off crept over the United keepers crossbar.

With United on the back foot Kilmarnock brought on Pat Nevin for Varielle and it was the former Scotland star who set up the equaliser.

From a free-kick midway inside the United half Nevin jinked his way to the edge of the box where he squared the ball to Mark Reilly.

The Kilmarnock midfielder took two steps to his left before curling a 22 yard shot past Dykstra at full stretch.
