John Robertson grabbed the goal which enabled Second Division Livingstone to
send Aberdeen crashing out of the Tennent's Scottish Cup.
The former Hearts striker conjured up a winner in the 65th minute of a hard
fought third round tie and there was no way back for the Dons.
It was Paul Hegarty's first match as Aberdeen boss after a spell as caretaker
and he was brought down to earth with a crash after watching his side beat a
Manchester United side on penalties in a testimonial match on Monday night.
Livingston came to Pittodrie on a mission to send the Dons spinning out of the
Cup and Robertson ensured it was a mission accomplished.
The visitors suffered a setback on 53 minutes when David Bingham was forced to
leave the field on a stretcher following an untimely challenge by David Rowson,
who was booked for the foul.
It was Robertson who stunned the Dons in the 63rd minute when he put the
Second Division side ahead.
Substitute Ian Little, who had replaced the injured Bingham, sent a great
defence-splitting pass through to Robertson and he ran 20 yards before slipping
the ball under Derek's Stillie's body.
The Dons were looking to salvage something from their season but Livingston
out-played them for long spells.
And now Hegarty is left facing a long battle against relegation for the
remainder of the season.
Livingston boss Ray Stewart can take much heart and confidence from their win
especially the way his troops kept things tight at the back and how quickly they
closed down the Aberdeen players.
