New boss Alec Miller watched his Aberdeen side try their best in the first 45
minutes, but St Johnstone created the best chances.
The first opportunity came after only six minutes when goalkeeper Jim Leighton
had to be at his best to block a powerful header by James Weir.
But after Leighton uncharacteristically dropped the ball, George O'Boyle
blasted over the bar with the empty net at his mercy.
Toni Kombouare then slipped and let in Alan Preston who, instead of aiming for
goal, laid the ball back for O'Boyle.
But Gary Smith cleared the danger.
It wasn't until the second half that the match truly came to life when the
Dons edged ahead on 49 minutes.
David Rowson collected the balls 25 yards out before side-stepping a defender
and unleashing an upstoppable shot past Alan Main.
Saints then had a couple of chances to equalise before Stephen Glass nearly
extended the home side's lead with a great shot from the left which smashed into
the side netting.
The visitors made a couple of changes and threw everything at the Dons, which
paid off with an equaliser involving the two substitutes in the 80th minute.
Keith O'Halloran, who had come on for Preston, floated a freekick in from the
right and Roddy Grant was first to the ball with a header which gave Leighton no
chance.
While a point was better than none at all, Dons boss Miller was left pondering
his defensive flaws.
