Super sub Scott Crabbe bundled Aberdeen out of the Tennent's Scottish Cup,
clinching the First Division leaders a surprise quarter-final date at home to
Third Division Peterhead on Saturday.
The former Hearts and Dundee United player popped up with an 83rd minute
header to send Livingston through, and thus shock the home supporters in a game
best forgotten.
The near 10,000 crowd were bracing themselves to endure extra time until the
litter veteran intervened and brought an end to the Pittodrie outfits'
mini-revival.
For the West Lothian side, this result, a repeat of their victory here in the
Cup two seasons ago, represents another positive turning point in their short
history.
The opening half hour showed a few signs of spark for the crowd, but neither
side could provide the cutting edge that was required.
Livvy did have a couple of openings in the first 10 minutes, when Barry Wilson
was unlucky to shoot just wide with only Ryan Esson to beat.
Aberdeen found themselves rather ill at ease, as they were hustled out of
their side by the hard working visitors, and they could only point to a couple
of half-hearted efforts by Rachid Belabed, who was not helped by his anonymous
partner Arild Stavrum.
In the second period, the Dons did lift themselves much more compared to their
dismal first half, but to little avail as they couldn't work their way through
well organised Livvy.
Both Darren Young, and Robbie Winters had a couple of opportunities, before
perhaps their best effort by Andy Dow was saved by Livingston keeper Neil
Alexander mid-way through the half.
Anxious Aberdeen manager Skovdahl attempted to freshen up things in a tack by
sending on Derek Young for Dow, but the creativity and fluency was still lacking
as Livingston grew in confidence.
Leishman then elected to send on substitutes Bryan McPhee and Crabbe for Alex
Burns and Darren Jackson with 75 minutes gone, and it was to prove a master
stroke by the veteran manager.
Crabbe almost made an impact with nine-minutes to go when he tried an
audacious shot from the centre circle, taking advantage of David Rowson's slip,
but the ball sped just wide of target.
He didn't have to worry though, because in the 83rd minute he popped up to
drive a stake through the Dons' heart.
From Barry Wilson's in-swinging corner, Crabbe rose above Aberdeen defence to
glance a header into the top corner beyond Jamie McAllister on the goalline - to
send the visiting fans into raptures and to make this a night for all of
Pittodrie to forget.
