East Fife went back to the top of the table but left it late for a 2-0 home win
over Montrose.
The visitors could have put a very different complexion on the game after
creating a great chance for Ian Gilzean after 21 minutes.
But his close-range effort was blocked by Jim Butter and the danger cleared.
Top-scorer Kenny Deuchar finally set the Fifers on their way after 73 minutes
when he made no mistake from only a few yards out.
And it was Deuchar who set up the second on 75 minutes, cutting the ball back
for Craig McMillan to roll the ball home.
The day's other game saw Stirling Albion keep up their promotion challenge with a hard-fought 2-1 home
win over the Third Division's bottom club East Stirling.
The hosts took the lead after just three minutes when Robert Dunn scored with
a spectacular free-kick from 20 yards.
And they looked to be cruising when Paul Hay added a second on 23 minutes with
a deflected shot from just outside the box.
But Derek Ure missed a couple of good chances as East Stirling came back into
it and Jordan Leishman managed to cut the deficit with a fine finish after 44
minutes.
Albion recovered their composure, however, and had chances to add to their
lead in the second half, with Stephen Reilly going close on three occasions.
