Table-toppers East Fife and Peterhead shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw at New Bayview.
East Fife drew first blood when John Allison's effort looped over Paul Mathers
in the first minute. Peterhead then had Andy Roddie stretchered off in four
minutes but levelled in 61 minutes when Robbie Raeside nodded down a free kick
and Ian Stewart finished calmly.
Kevin Tindal fired the visitors ahead with an overhead kick in 65 minutes but
Gordon Gilbert headed a leveller in 72 minutes.
Stewart then bagged his second when defensive frailties allowed the striker an
easy finish. However, James Herkes popped up with five minutes to go to lob the
keeper and grab a share of the points.
Morton and Gretna fought out a 2-2 draw but the match ended in chaos with
Gretna's central defender Kyle May sent off and Morton's Alex Williams missing a
chance to clinch all three points for the home side.
With the sides locked on 2-2 in the 90th minute Morton were awarded a free
kick on the edge of the penalty area. And as the two sets of players jostled
Willams first attempt was blocked but referee Eric Martindale booked Gretna's
Ryan for rushing forward to block the ball.
And before it could be retaken Morton's Phil Cannie was knocked to the ground
and May sent off. After all of that Willliams sent his free kick over the bar.
As the sides battled on Tommy Turner was booked for a comment he made to
Martindale.
Earlier Morton were on top and took the lead in 17 minutes when Willliams
reacted quickly inthe crowded goalmouth to slip the ball into the net.
And Morton went two ahead in 47 minutes when David Hopkin rounded a defender
to shoot past keeper David Mathieson.
But Gretna's fight back began in 52 minutes when May rushed forwrd to drive
high into the net and just three minutes later Simon Eeles knocked in the
equaliser.
Stirling Albion's recent good run continued with a hard fought 3-1 away victory
over promotion candidate Albion Rovers. After an even first half the visitors
turned on the pressure and two quick fire goals settled the issue.
Albion Rovers went ahead on only seven minutes through Charles McClean but the
visitors drew level on 22minutes when Steve Nicholas netted with a penalty
kick.
Late on in the second half goals from David O'Brien and Steve Mallan put the
visitors in an unassailable position and although the home team finished
strongly the visitors deserved the win.
Elgin City fought out a 2-2 draw with visitors Queens Park, with Johnny Whelan, who scored the winner when the sides last met at Borough Briggs, on target again with a late Queen's equaliser.
Whelan rescued the Spiders with an 83rd minute header to complete a fine
comeback from two goals down.
Elgin were first on target after 17 minutes thanks a sensational 25-yard
volley from Chris Love which brought the game to life.
Within eight minutes City captain Craig Tully had added a second from a David
Craig pass.
But Steven Moffat quickly reduced the deficit on 28 minutes.
David Craig and Kevin Steele both went close for Elgin in the second half
while Steven Canning was twice denied a goal for the visitors before Whelan's
late equaliser gave them a thoroughly deserved point.
Montrose needed a late equaliser to clinch a 2-2 draw against visitors East
Stirling.
Montrose dominated the first half and struck the woodwork twice but they
didn't open the scoring until two minutes into the second half when a Kevin
Webster corner was smashed home by Steve Kerrigan.
Montrose looked on easy street but were made to pay in 73 minutes when Gerry
Boyle darted clear on the left and shot home.
Worse was to follow just three minutes later when Sean McAuley scored with a
low-angle drive from the edge of the box to put East Stirling 2-1 up.
Montrose equalised six minutes from time when Grant Johnson slotted home a
cross from the right.
