 SCOTTISH THREE REVIEWS

ELGIN HOLD LEADERS

David Craig's second-half leveller gave Elgin City a 1-1 draw with Division Three leaders East Fife.

Craig smashed home a 62nd-minute drive from fellow sub Richard James' left-wing cross to earn the home side a point.

The Fifers had taken the lead four minutes into the second half with a simple close-range Gordon Gilbert goal after good work by team-mate Kenny Deuchar.

The visitors went in search of a winning goal in the closing 15 minutes and Deuchar was denied by a good save from Elgin keeper Martin Pirie, while Ross Graham struck the woodwork with a late header.

Central defender Todd Lumsden met a Jed Stirling corner after 10 minutes to head powerfully into the net to earn the three points for Albion with a 1-0 win at Morton.

It was a real shock for promotion-chasing Morton who, despite creating pressure in the second half, could not beat a determined Albion defence.

Peterhead carded an impressive 4-1 win over a lacklustre Gretna side.

The visitors dominated throughout the match, pushing forward quickly, and their early pressure paid off.

After just three minutes Kevin Pindel caught the ball on the rebound from a Martin Johnston header and slotted it into the corner of the net.

Gretna started to create chances toward the end of the first half, and equalised three minutes after the re-start.

Steven Skinner set up an Alex Benjamin header and he powered the ball in from six yards.

But Peterhead quickly took back control. They won a free-kick on the edge of the box after 54 minutes and Andrew Roddie curled it over the wall and straight into the net.

The visitors made it 3-1 after 78 minutes.

Iain Stewart dribbled into the Gretna box and passed to Roddie, who launched it past Mathieson.

And six minutes later they sealed their victory through substitute Lamile Camara.

A late Stevie Nicholas strike earned Stirling Albion a 1-1 draw with Montrose.

The visitors seemed to be heading for three points when, on 60 minutes, sub Steve Kerrigan knocked the ball over the line from Graeme McCheyne's cross.

However, Albion rallied and they deservedly equalised in the 82nd minute when Fraser Duncan's long ball found Stevie Mallan, who chested down to strike partner Nicholas.

Nicholas darted into the box and stumbled after clashing with Montrose's Frank Conway, but amid penalty claims he recovered and shot past Gary McGlynn.

East Stirling notched up a 2-0 victory at Queen's Park thanks to an opportunist strike in the fourth minute from David Ormiston and a stoppage-time second goal from substitute Gerry Boyle.

Shire also had to thank goalkeeper Scott Findlay, who produced a string of super saves to defy John Gemmill twice, Tony Quinn twice and substitute Stephen Canning.

Although the Spiders threw everything into attack in the second half, shots on target from Willie Martin and Gemmill were again saved by Findlay.

The result gave East Stirling revenge for last week against Queens, who knocked them out of the CIS Insurance Cup.
