East Fife romped to a 5-1 win against nine-man Albion Rovers in an
incident-packed match.
The visitors roared into an early lead with a second-minute strike from Gordon
Gilbert and another in the fifth minute from Jimmy Nairn.
Rovers pulled a goal back through John Bradford in the 23rd minute but red
cards for Andy Paterson and James Dick left the Fifers with acres of space to
exploit.
In a one-sided second half, goals by James Herkes (63), Gordon Love (75) and
Euan Donaldson (79) saw the visitors canter to the top of the table.
Title favourites Morton struggled to take a point against
bottom-of-the-table East Stirling in a 1-1 draw.
The visitors, with former Scotland international David Hopkin in their
line-up, were expected to sweep Shire aside, and took the lead after just nine
minutes from the penalty spot.
A clever reverse pass sent Finnish winger Jani Uotinen clear and he was
brought down inside the box by goalkeeper Scott Finlay. Alex Williams scored the
resulting penalty.
However, Morton failed to take advantage of their early superiority and were
happy to sit back on their lead. They were made to pay the price with just 10
minutes to go.
Some poor defending inside their own area allowed substitute Sean McAuley to
cross for their trialist striker to shoot high into the roof of the net.
An early goal from Keith Gibson was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Montrose
at home to Elgin.
The home side scored in the ninth minute when Grant Johnson squared the ball
for Gibson to hammer home from 25 yards.
An opportunist strike from top scorer Ian Stewart gave Peterhead a
morale-boosting 1-0 victory against Stirling.
Home goalkeeper Paul Mathers' block from a Paul Hay shot after 34 minutes was
the nearest either side came to scoring in a lacklustre first half.
The Blue Toon made a lively start to the second period and scored the decisive
goal after 53 minutes.
Stewart received the ball with his back to goal before turning to shoot low
into the bottom corner of the net.
Captain Danny Ferry scored the only goal of the game as Queen's Park secured
their first win of the season - 1-0 at home to Gretna.
Ferry pounced on a loose ball in midfield in the 14th minute and powered his
way forward.
He played a neat one-two with John Gemmell before rushing into the penalty
area to coolly slot the ball home.
