East Fife coasted to a 4-1 home victory against a poor East Stirling side to
maintain their position at the top of Division Three.
The Fifers took the lead after 11 minutes through Gordon Gilbert only for the
visitors to hit back 13 minutes later through Derek Ewer.
This prompted East Fife to turn on the style and John Ovenstone headed them
into the lead shortly before the break.
Derek Carmichael almost brought East Stirling level with a glancing header but
Ovenstone scored his second goal after 75 minutes with a looping header which
eased Jim Moffat's men to three well-deserved points.
A convincing display from Albion Rovers saw the home side cruise to a 3-0
victory against Peterhead and maintain their 100% record.
After the visitors had impressed in the early stages, Rovers took the lead in
the 12th minute courtesy of an excellent strike from defender Peter Cormack.
And when Iain Diack netted a second shortly after the restart, the writing was
on the wall, with Peterhead capitulating under constant home pressure.
With seven minutes remaining, Wee Rovers substitute David Carr added a third
to cap off a fine day for Peter Hetherston's men.
Morton went goal crazy as the Division Three side marched to an impressive 5-1
victory against a hapless Stirling Albion side.
Alex Williams opened the scoring after just five minutes only for Stephen
Reilly to equalise for the visitors two minutes later.
However, this provoked Morton into action and Dave McPherson's men then turned
on the style.
Morton took the lead in the 32nd minute through Jani Uotinen and they added a
third after Williams claimed his second of the day.
The second half was a similar story as Warren Hawke and Paul Gaughan completed
the rout to earn Morton three points.
And to add to Albion's woes, Mark McNally was sent off after a wild lunge on
Paul Hay in the 55th minute.
New boys Gretna secured their first victory in Scottish League football as first-half
goals from Mark Dobie and Stephen Skinner handed them a 2-0 away win against a
poor Elgin side.
Dobie opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a clinical finish after Skinner
capitalised on some slack Elgin defending.
The visitors doubled their lead after 31 minutes when Dobie returned the
compliment for Skinner, who curled home a fine effort past the helpless Martin
Pirie.
It could have been much worse for the home side had it not been for Pirie, who
performed heroics in the Elgin goal as Gretna sealed an impressive win.
A Kevin Webster strike edged Montrose to a 1-0 victory against Queen's Park at
the Links Park Stadium.
Queen's Park started positively when a superb strike from John Gemmell struck
the crossbar after just six minutes, but the home side soon asserted their
dominance.
The Gable Endies took the lead after 25 minutes when a pinpoint cross found
Webster who made no mistake with the header.
Montrose could have made it two after 38 minutes when a fierce Colin McDonald
volley was well saved by Spiders goalkeeper Tony Mitchell as John Sheran's men
hung on for three vital points.
