Stranraer manager Billy McLaren saw his side reach the quarter-final of the
Scottish Cup for the first time in the club's history and claimed it would
create massive excitement in the town.
Two goals from Ian Harty, including a penalty, gave the Blues a 2-0 win over
Morton at Cappilow to put a smile on McLaren's face.
"I was really pleased with their performance today, it's a massive
achievement for the club and I'm delighted for both the players and the
supporters," he said.
"It's never easy against any team of John McCormack's and we had to pull out
all the stops to make it through.
"This will be a huge boost for the town and will create a lot of excitement
in the coming weeks."
McLaren was not concerned whom his team face in the next round.
"I'm very happy to be in the draw for the next round and I'm not too
concerned about who we get," he added.
"I thought we were very good defensively today. I was pleased with the
players' attitude and thought we showed a lot of strength and determination in
the right areas."
Morton boss John McCormack admitted that Stranraer had deserved their win but
was disappointed at the club losing out on the revenue a quarter-final tie would
have brought.
The Cappilow manager was aggrieved at the manner in which his side conceded
the goals, but was proud of the way his players had fought to get back into the
game.
"I accept that we lost bad goals and especially with the unnecessary manner
that we gave away the penalty," he said.
"Having said that, I was happy with the way we responded and began to show a
bit of guile and skill.
"But all credit to Stranraer, they stood up strongly in the second half and
deserved to get through in the end.
"I feel sorry for the fans who turned out in very good numbers today, and
also for the club in a financial sense.
