Two-goal Willie Falconer eased Clyde closer to the title race as they took
advantage of the top two not playing with a 3-2 home win over St Mirren.
The surprise was that it took them until the 69th minute to get the winner in
a game they dominated.
St Mirren took the lead with a sweetly worked goal after 13 minutes, Rickie
Gillies hitting a Junior Mendes cross into the net first time.
But four minutes later Falconer grabbed the easiest of equalisers when he
pushed the ball into the empty net after keeper Ludovic Roy could only half-stop
a fierce shot.
Falconer then put Clyde ahead with a 24th-minute header, and they came close
to adding a third as Leigh Hinds' shot came back off a post.
Against the run of play, St Mirren equalised two minutes into the second half
through Kirk Broadfoot's headed goal.
But on 69 minutes Clyde's pressure paid off when Pat Keogh walked the ball
into the net for the winner.
Three goals in 18 minutes helped St Johnstone battle back before running out 3-2 winners at Arbroath.
The home side hit the front on 23 minutes when Paul Brownlie scored and this was the way it stayed until the 61st minute when Ian Maxwell levelled.
Danish star Tommy Lovenkrands then fired Saints ahead ten minutes later before Paddy Connolly made it 3-1 on 79.
John McGlashan pulled one back with two minutes left, but it was to prove too little too late as St Johnston held on.
Queen of the South and visiting Ayr United settled for a 1-1 draw in a match
which saw fortunes swing both ways.
Ayr were quicker out of the blocks and hit the woodwork early on as the
Dumfries side reeled under pressure.
But it was Queens who made the breakthrough after 62 minutes when Peter
Weatherson cut in from the by line and warded off a couple of challenges to
shoot into the far corner of the net.
The lead lasted just four minutes, however, as a shot from Iain Nicolson was
deflected high in front of goal and Stewart Kean dived in to head past keeper
Andy Goram.
Queens had the better of the game in the closing stages but just could not
find the net as a heavy pitch and tired legs took their toll on both teams.
