RAMPANT CALLY HIT FOUR

Falkirk struggled to break down stubborn opponents Queen of the South but ultimately ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Brockville.

Queens gave as good as they got in the early stages but eventually succumbed to the top-of-the-table Bairns. A first half strike from Andy Lawrie was followed a second half own goal from Derek Allan and a late Colin Samuel strike.

St Johnstone maintained their 100% cent home record with an impressive display in a 2-0 win against Alloa.

They opened the scoring after 10 minutes, when Stuart McCluskey rose to meet a Paul Hartley corner only for Ryan McCann to bundle his goal-bound effort over the line.

Paddy Connelly doubled their advantage midway through the first half. Inverness romped to a 4-0 win at St Mirren and on this evidence it will be Thistle, not the home side, who will be challenging for honours at the end of the season.

Caley Thistle opened the scoring when Barry Robson drilled the ball home at following a Charlie Christie cross.

Saints conceded a second goal after 21 minutes. Robson robbed one defender before gliding past another and applied a cool finish for his second goal.

Richard Hart got his name on the scoresheet three minutes later, tapping the ball home from close range after Kris Robertson could only parry a Christie shot.

The scoring was completed in the 72nd minute when outstanding Christie scored a delightful 20-yard free-kick that went in off the post. Airdrie dominated against Cowdenbeath but had to settle for a point in a goalless draw.

Cowdenbeath goalkeeper Gary O'Connor made two fine saves in the first half, keeping out a stinging volley from Stevie Docherty and then denying the same player from close range just before the break.

His counterpart Mark McGeown in the Airdrie goal was not to be outdone, making a couple of good saves to keep his side in it. Ross County and Clyde shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Victoria Park which only came to life in the last six minutes.

Just when the match looked to be heading for stalemate, Clyde took the lead through Jack Ross in the 84th minute only for County to level three minutes later through a Martin Canning header. A stunning free-kick from Paul Sheerin bagged the points for Ayr as they recorded a 1-0 win against Arbroath.

Man-of-the-match Sheerin stepped up in first-half injury-time to curl a 25-yard effort into the top corner.
