Ross County are in pole position at the top of the Division One table after an
impressive 2-0 home victory against Queen of the South.
Steven Ferguson gave the Dingwall side the lead with a header in the 39th
minute following a pinpoint delivery from Conor Gethins.
Queen's best chance arrived in the 57th minute when Steve Bowey hit a fierce
drive which struck the crossbar.
But the home side eased to their win as substitute Martin Wood scored a
beautifully-crafted goal which left former Scotland goalkeeper Andy Goram
helpless.
Falkirk moved into second after coasting to a 2-0 victory against St Mirren after two early strikes
knocked the stuffing out of the visitors.
The home side were quick to take the game to St Mirren men and deservedly took
the lead after just nine minutes.
A long ball over a static Buddies defence found veteran Owen Coyle, who
flicked the ball past Ludovic Roy with typical efficiency.
And the Bairns added a second six minutes later thanks to a superb piece of
individualism from Andy Lawrie.
He picked up a loose ball just outside the centre circle and weaved his way
through the St Mirren defence before driving it into the net from 20 yards.
St Mirren offered some degree of spirit in the second half but the home side
never looked fazed as Ian McCall's side claimed an easy win.
A polished Arbroath display against Alloa eased the visitors to a 3-0 victory
at Recreation Park and into mid-table respectability.
The Red Lichties opened the scoring after 23 minutes after Murray McDowell
broke free from some static defending and steered a fine finish past the
helpless Alloa goalkeeper.
The visitors survived early second-half pressure and went on to add another
goal after 65 minutes, when Innes Ritchie headed home from a Paul Brownlie
cross.
And with only a minute remaining, Darren Spink sealed the victory with a fine
finish after a pinpoint Gavin Swankey delivery.
A Leigh Hinds strike handed Clyde a 1-0 victory over Ayr United in the Division
One clash at the Broadwood Stadium.
After a dismal first half, the game came alive after 53 minutes when Hinds
rocketed the ball home from a deflected John Fraser cross.
However, the visitors were in uproar after an alleged Andy Millen foul was not
given in the build-up to the goal.
This provoked the Honest Men into action and Pat Keogh went close with a fine
header that was well tipped over shortly afterwards.
And with 14 minutes to go Ayr thought they had snatched a share of the points,
but a James Grady volley was ruled out for offside as Alan Kernaghan's men clung
on for the win.
A Stuart McCaffrey own goal was enough for title favourites St Johnstone to
steal the points with a 1-0 win in their Division One clash with Inverness at
McDiarmid Park.
But the visitors can feel hard done by after carving out the better chances
and defending with grit and determination for long periods.
Bobby Mann was the pick of the Caley players and created a number of promising
opportunities as Saints struggled to get out of first gear.
Dennis Wyness could have given Inverness the lead after 65 minutes but his
superb strike was well gathered by St Johnstone goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert.
But with just nine minutes to go, Inverness hearts were broken when McCaffrey
misjudged a clearance and deflected the ball into the back of the net after a
hopeful Paddy Connolly cross.
Barry Robson went close to snatching a late equaliser but Billy Stark's men
hung on for the win.
