Prolific striker Alex Bone started the season in style as he helped Ross County to a 3-0 win at Arbroath.
His 43rd-minute volley from Steven McGarry's cross livened up a poor first
half.
The second period was a more one-sided affair with County well on top, and
they extended their lead after 61 minutes, Bone turning provider for Don Cowie
to slam home.
County sealed victory eight minutes later when defender Brian Irvine headed
down to Steven Ferguson, who lashed a shot into the net.
Falkirk served notice of their First Division title aspirations with a storming
display in a 3-1 win against Ayr at Somerset Park.
It took just 66 seconds for Jamie McQuilken to fire the Bairns in front
following a goalmouth scramble.
Veteran Owen Coyle doubled the lead after 23 minutes with a clinical finish
from six yards.
Ayr produced a spirited second-half fightback and substitute Stewart Kean
halved the deficit with a well-taken header.
But Falkirk skipper Kevin James put the game beyond doubt when he rifled home
after superb work by Coyle.
Paul Hartley scored a very early contender for goal of the season to wrap up
victory for St Johnstone as they beat St Mirren 2-0.
The Perth Saints fired a warning to their promotion rivals with a commanding
display, as striker Keigan Parker started the season in style with an
opportunist goal after 17 minutes.
Clyde defender John Potter had an opening day to forget as his own goal helped
Queen of the South to a 2-1 home win.
The Doonhamers took the lead after 12 minutes when striker Sean O'Connor's
mis-hit shot fell to Potter, who lashed his clearance past his own keeper.
They went further ahead in the 72nd minute when Eric Paton's shot from the
edge of the area flew into the roof of the net.
Clyde got a goal back from Andy Millen and it inspired a late rally, but they
could not find an equaliser.
A superb goalkeeping display by Myles Hogarth earned Alloa a point at the
Caledonian Stadium as they held Inverness to a goalless draw.
Hogarth was in inspired form as he made several excellent saves and managed to
stop a penalty from Ross Tokely with 20 minutes remaining.
