Derby joy for Hibs; Rangers win

A review of Sunday's action in the Scottish Cup fourth round.

  • Hibernian celebrate victory against rivals Hearts.
  • Dean Shiels scored as Rangers won 3-0 against Elgin City.

Hibernian exacted some form of revenge for their Scottish Cup final derby thrashing when David Wotherspoon's late strike deflected off Marius Zaliukas to secure a 1-0 win and send holders Hearts crashing out.

Hibs had struggled to create chances and saw top goalscorer Leigh Griffiths carried off on a stretcher after Hearts midfielder Darren Barr accidentally stood on his ankle.

But their fans did not care in the slightest that their win was far scrappier than Hearts' 5-1 Hampden triumph, or that their 83rd-minute winner came from a fortunate own goal as they celebrated their first derby victory in 13 matches.

In Sunday's other match, Kevin Kyle claimed his first Ibrox goal as Rangers dumped Elgin City out with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Dean Shiels and Kal Naismith were also on the scoresheet to help ensure safe passage into the fifth round of the competition.
