Brentford have confirmed their request for the Premier League to investigate the transfer of former defender Michael Turner from Hull to Sunderland in August.

There has been confusion over the exact fee paid by the Black Cats for the 25-year-old and consequently this has affected the percentage sell-on fees that former clubs Brentford and Charlton are owed.

Turner, having previously been linked with Liverpool and Manchester City, was publicly valued at £12million by Hull during the summer at a time when he had four years remaining on his contract.

However, when Turner did eventually leave the price was officially undisclosed. Perhaps adding to the confusion is the fact Paul McShane moved in the opposite direction, from Sunderland to Hull, at the same time.

Brentford director and acting CEO David Heath said: "We have previously written to the Football League requesting that they ask the Premier League to carry out a review of the transfer fee following the transfer of Michael Turner from Hull to Sunderland.

"We have a disagreement with Charlton Athletic concerning the sell-on clause and a percentage of the sell-on fee in question is being held by the Football League.

"Both clubs have previously received their percentages of the sell-on fee that were not in dispute.

"Brentford FC have submitted their statement of claim to the Football League and the matter will be resolved at a Football disciplinary hearing during the week commencing November 30."

The Premier League have received notification of the matter and are understood to be writing to both clubs for their observations.
