HODGSON: CONSISTENCY THE KEY

Newly-crowned manager of the month Roy Hodgson believes consistency has been the key to his side's resurgence in the Barclays Premier League.

The Fulham boss will be looking to extend his side's four-match unbeaten run in the league when he takes them to struggling Wigan on Sunday.

Last week's victory over title contenders Liverpool marked the end of an impressive month for the Cottagers boss, who steered his side from the edge of the relegation zone to 11th in the league.

Fulham went the whole of October unbeaten, registering draws against Manchester City, West Ham and Roma, while also winning against Liverpool, Hull and Basle.

That achievement was recognised by the league on Friday when he was named October's manager of the month.

Some felt Hodgson's rotation policy had led to the Cottagers' inconsistent start to the season, but the 62-year-old now believes he is able to get the best out of his players on a regular basis.

"I think the important thing for all teams is to try and develop some degree of consistency so you know exactly what type of performance your players are likely to give you in all of the games you play in," he told Fulham's official website.

"It feels very good and it's a great honour to be named manager of the month," he added.

"It's always very nice to be appreciated by people within the game and the people making the judgements. It's something I'm very proud of and very happy with."

Hodgson was angry at the referee's decision to send off Erik Nevland and Paul Konchesky during Fulham's first defeat in over a month in Rome on Thursday.

Andrew Johnson and Danny Murphy are likely to miss Sunday's game but Damien Duff could return after missing Thursday's match while Kagisho Dikgacoi is also available after serving a three-match suspension.

Fulham bounced back from a disappointing last-minute equaliser at home to Roma by beating Liverpool 3-1 at Craven Cottage three days later.

Hodgson believes his team will have to dig deep to pull off the same result on Sunday even though Roberto Martinez's side were on the wrong end of a 4-0 drubbing at rock-bottom Portsmouth last week.

"We'll be stronger as a squad on Sunday than we were going to Roma," he said.

"We've got a tough task ahead of us trying to get a result up in Wigan, especially in a week like this one, with Liverpool and Roma preceding the match but that's the task ahead and the task we're preparing for."
