Eidur Gudjohnson came on as a substitute to rescue Bolton in a thriller - just
as he had done four days earlier at Swindon.
The Icelandic striker dragged Bolton level 10 minutes from time just as it
looked like Barnsley would record their first away win of the year.
In a fast and furious First Division clash between two of the sides relegated
from the Premiership at the end of last season, Bolton hurried into a two-goal
lead only to concede three goals in the space of 14 minutes before Gudjohnson
had the final word.
Bolton skipper Scott Sellars volleyed home Wanderers' first on 15 minutes
before a penalty from Dean Holdsworth after a foul by Scott Jones on Michael
Johansen increased the lead 10 minutes later.
But Barnsley were not prepared to surrender and after Eric Tinkler had gone
close with a header, Craig Hignett sent a sweet shot across Jussi Jaaskelainen
into the far bottom corner to put the visitors back in the picture.
Two minutes from half-time a thunderous free-kick from Jones brought Barnsley
level after Mike Whitlow had fouled the lively Bruce Dyer.
Jaaskelainen came to Bolton's rescue with a superb tip-over save from Tinkler
but the Yorkshiremen were ahead three minutes into the second half.
A pass from substitute Clayton Blackmore set up Hignett and his shot went in
via the base of the post.
Dyer missed a glorious chance late on after breaking clear of a stationary
Wanderers defence and Barnsley were made to pay in full.
Gudjohnson, on the field for just 18 minutes, glided past a challenge to fire
home low past Tony Bullock.
Promotion-chasing Bolton have now taken just two points from the last possible
12 and conceded three times in all of their last four matches.
