Bolton manager Gary Megson hopes his players are ready to show Chelsea that they have learned their lessons from the chastening Carling Cup defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea ran out comfortable 4-0 winners on Wednesday night in the first leg of the teams' cup and league double-header, which moves on to the Reebok Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League.

The personnel involved - particularly in Chelsea's case - are likely to have changed for the weekend's game, but Megson is adamant his team must use the experience of Wednesday night to their advantage in order to ensure that there is no repeat performance.

"If we don't approach it in the right manner, the same thing will happen again," Megson said.

"We have got to find a way to upset Chelsea, and I don't mean physically.

"We have got to play at a tempo that suits us because last night, Chelsea dictated that tempo - they dictated absolutely everything, from minute one to 90. We have to give ourselves a better chance.

"Hopefully it's a better performance - hopefully we start in a manner which might cause the opposition a few more problems.

"It will be difficult because the two teams will be different and theirs will be stronger.

"The venue obviously changes as well, but we will be playing a team that 72 hours earlier gave us a lesson - and we have to learn that lesson."

Although they will now enjoy home advantage there can be little doubt that Bolton face a massive task on Saturday in attempting to contain the league leaders, who have taken 24 from a possible 30 points so far this season.

Back-to-back defeats against Carlo Ancelotti's team is a distinct possibility, but Megson is hoping at the very least that his players can give as good an account of themselves as they did at Old Trafford two weeks ago.

"If we do have to lose games, we want it to be like it was against Manchester United, where we gave it everything we have got," Megson said.

"Things might not particularly go right for us in terms of fortune, but at least we will know that we have put everything into it and really given them a game to remember.

"I think from the word go against Chelsea last night we were just tame and didn't give ourselves an opportunity to cause an upset at all."

Chelsea suffered a shock the last time they played in the north-west, with Wigan pulling off a 3-1 victory at the DW Stadium.

That result would seem to offer Bolton some hope for the weekend, but as far as Megson is concerned, it will only have made the Blues doubly determined that it will not happen again.

"It was a great result for Wigan and I'll take nothing away from them, but I don't think it did anybody else any favours," Megson said.

"Once these big teams get put under pressure they always come up with the goods afterwards.

"A couple of years ago we beat Man United at our place, but it only seemed to serve as a wake-up call for them.

"The fact that they have lost a game to a team that they haven't expected to lose to seems to galvanise the whole football club and they use that to their advantage."

Other than long-term casualties Joey O'Brien and Sean Davis, Megson has a full squad to pick from for Saturday after the team came through unscathed from Wednesday night's match.

"There are no injuries because we didn't get near anybody to get injured!" the manager joked.

"There is maybe a little bit of injured pride though, which won't be a bad thing because I'm hopeful we'll use that to go and show that the Bolton that they saw at Stamford Bridge wasn't what has been on show for the last couple of months."
