Veteran John Aldridge signed off his playing career with a brace of goals as
Tranmere finished their season with a 2-1 defeat of Wolves.
The 39-year-old ace marksman scored once in each half - and nearly completed
his hat-trick - to go out in style.
He fired Rovers ahead from the penalty spot in the 34th minute after Gary
Jones had been impeded by Keith Curle.
Don Goodman put Wolves level with a superb angled shot which goalkeeper Steve
Simonsen could only help into his own net in the 51st minute.
Aldridge hit a post for Rovers before putting them back in front after 75
minutes following a free-kick by Liam O'Brien which Curle failed to clear.
Only a superb save by Mike Stowell kept out an Aldridge header in the 79th
minute as the former international star went in search of his hat-trick.
Striker Andy Parkinson was always a threat for Rovers and John McGreal was
brilliant in central defence.
Neil Emblen worked hard for Wolves, but it was a tired performance by the
visitors who were suffering their 13th away defeat of the season.
