Wolves' hopes of making the play-offs suffered a huge blow as a Hasney Aljofree strike and a Paul Ince own goal handed Plymouth a deserved 2-0 win.
Aljofree grabbed his first goal of the season in the ninth minute while Ince headed into his own net late on to ensure the Pilgrims took all three points off
disappointing Wolves.
Plymouth went into the game without a win for nearly a month but, with Tony Pulis' side almost certain to be playing Coca-Cola Championship football next season, they are only playing for pride in their final few games.
For Wolves the game was crucial for their play-off ambitions and the loss leaves them with a difficult task of making the top six.
Vincent Pericard signalled Plymouth's early intent when he forced Wolves goalkeeper Stefan Postma into a save while Nick Chadwick shot over the bar soon after.
But they did not have to wait long before they took the lead, as in the ninth minute Tony Capaldi delivered a corner from the left flank and Aljofree took possession and fired home from distance.
The Pilgrims continued to dominate and were comfortably keeping Wolves at bay, the visitors' first effort on goal not arriving until the 22nd minute when Ince's volley was blocked by David Norris.
Lilian Nalis headed over the crossbar from another Capaldi corner as the home side threatened to extend their lead.
Romain Larrieu was called upon for the first time when Ince drove a shot that the Frenchman had to parry to safety.
And Norris could have added to the home side's slender lead with the last action of the half, but his drilled effort was punched clear by Postma.
And the Wolves shotstopper had to be alert soon after the restart as he palmed away Pericard's shot.
The visitors' few chances were all coming from Ince and again the former England international threatened but contrived to head wide a Daniel Jones cross.
But it was Plymouth who continued to look the most likely to score again and in the 63rd minute Paul Wotton was denied by Postma, who parried his 18-yard effort.
And their second finally came when Ince, who ironically had looked the most likely to drag Wolves back into the game, headed into his own net with 10 minutes remaining.
Ince volleyed wide with minutes remaining as he looked to make amends but Plymouth held firm for the victory.
