Wolves were held to a frustrating draw by Plymouth at Molineux despite
dominating the game from start to finish.
Elliot Ward's 21st-minute strike was cancelled out by Colin Cameron's goal 10
minutes later, but Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle will be frustrated by his side's
inability to convert a hatful of other chances.
Plymouth goalkeeper Romain Larrieu had an outstanding game, frustrating Wolves
with a series of fine saves.
Hoddle made five changes to his starting line-up, with Maurice Ross making his
first start and Tom Huddlestone, Gabor Gyepes, Kenny Miller and Leon Clarke
returning to the starting 11.
Wolves almost opened the scoring in the very first minute when former England
midfielder Darren Anderton drilled a rasping left-footed shot that Larrieu did
well to parry.
Cameron had a chance for the home side in the fourth minute, but his
long-range volley flew wide.
As Wolves continued to dominate the opening exchanges, Kenny Miller fizzed a
long-range effort over the crossbar.
Anderton and Cameron had further chances in the early stages, but somehow the
visitors managed to hold out.
Despite all the pressure coming from Wolves, Plymouth snatched the lead in the
21st minute when Ward latched on to Tony Capaldi's corner to make it 1-0 to the
visitors, completely against the run of play.
Wolves went straight back on the attack, and Anderton was again denied by
Larrieu.
Mark Kennedy was also denied by the impressive Pilgrims goalkeeper minutes
later, as Wolves became increasingly frustrated.
The home side finally struck in the 31st minute when Cameron drilled a
right-footed shot past Larrieu after a fine through-ball from Miller.
Miller had another chance in the 39th minute, but again Argyle's French
goalkeeper was there to deny him.
The second half began in identical fashion to the first with Anderton being
denied by Larrieu.
Kennedy and Cameron had further chances in the early stages of the half, as
the siege of Plymouth's goal continued.
Plymouth managed to find a way into the Wolves half, but Paul Connolly's
speculative long-range shot never looked like troubling Stefan Postma in the
home side's goal.
Wolves went straight back up the other end of the field and Ross was denied by
a fine block from the goalscorer Ward.
Hoddle brought on Paul Ince for Anderton in the 69th minute in attempt to
change his team's fortunes, but despite continued pressure, they were unable to
find a way through.
