P>Seol Ki-Hyeon scored a brilliant injury-time winner to earn Wolves a win they
barely deserved at Millwall today.
It had looked as though the game would end in a draw when Lions player-boss
Dennis Wise - on as a substitute for Jody Morris - netted a penalty in the 77th
minute.
But Seol's winner - Wolves' only shot on target after the break - added to
Seyi Olofinjana's first-half strike and left unlucky Millwall distraught.
Alan Dunne hit the bar for the home side, and visiting 'keeper Michael Oakes
made fine saves - although he was lucky not to concede an embarrassing early
goal.
In the 18th minute, Millwall skipper Kevin Muscat saw Oakes off his line and
sent the ball arcing towards the goal from 50 yards, but Oakes was able to
scramble back and touch the ball over the crossbar.
Although Wolves were struggling to create chances, they almost took the lead
after 26 minutes.
Carl Cort flicked Paul Ince's ball into the path of Seol, who lofted the ball
cleverly over Graham Stack but was dismayed to see defender Matt Lawrence make a
fantastic recovery to clear off the line.
Nine minutes later, Lawrence headed Morris' free-kick back across goal into
the path of Dunne, whose looping header from 10 yards beat Oakes but bounced
back off the crossbar.
A minute afterwards, Wolves were in front. Ince and Kenny Miller combined to
set up Olofinjana - whose run from midfield had gone un-noticed - and the
Nigerian slotted the ball beyond Stack to put Glenn Hoddle's side in front after
36 minutes.
With a minute of the first half left, Barry Hayles outmuscled Jody Craddock
and broke into the box onto Lawrence's through ball, but shot badly wide of the
right post.
Millwall came out for the second half in a determined mood, but found Oakes in
splendid form.
The Wolves 'keeper kept out Morris' free-kick in the 48th minute, and three
minutes later he pushed Scott Dobie's point-blank header over the bar.
Shortly afterwards, Dunne curled a shot towards the top-right corner, but
Oakes made another excellent save to preserve his team's lead.
Millwall got the equaliser they deserved - but they needed the help of a
bizarre penalty decision from referee Lee Probert.
Probert ruled that Joleon Lescott had fouled Hayles as he attempted to chase
down a long ball from Wise, and the Millwall player-manager drove the spot-kick
into the roof of Oakes' net.
But deep into injury-time, Seol was given space and time to crack a low shot
from 25 yards into Stack's bottom-left corner.
