Wolves missed a chance to cut Manchester City's lead at the top of the First
Division after being held to a goalless draw by Norwich at Molineux.
Dave Jones' side started the day five points behind the Maine Road club, who
could only manage a 1-1 draw against Rotherham at Millmoor.
But Wolves' hopes of moving three points behind their rivals in the race for
the title suffered a setback against a resilient Canaries outfit.
Wolves clearly missed the presence of injured top-scorer Dean Sturridge and
could only bring a couple of late saves out of goalkeeper Robert Green.
They have now gone four games without a win with this blank following their
disappointing 1-0 home defeat by relegation-threatened Grimsby last Saturday.
The Molineux faithful would have fancied their team's chances against a
Norwich side who have lost 13 games on their travels this season.
However, apart from an early Shaun Newton shot which was blocked by Darren
Kenton, Wolves were largely on the receiving end.
Clint Easton, who grabbed his first goal for Norwich in the win over
Gillingham on Tuesday, had a left-foot volley saved by Michael Oakes
The former Aston Villa goalkeeper had to be alert again in the 14th minute
after Ludovic Pollet, restored to the Wolves starting line-up as one of four
changes, fouled Paul McVeigh.
Danish defender Steed Nedergaard drilled his free-kick from 25 yards, but it
went straight down Oakes' throat.
Wolves' frustrations showed in the 23rd minute when Newton was booked for a
foul on Norwich left-back Adam Drury.
The home side had to wait until the 32nd minute before having their first real
threat at the Norwich goal, but when it came Wales international Nathan Blake
headed Alex Rae's cross wide from the edge of the box.
Chances were few and far between after the break with a booking for Blake for
dissent the only notable incident in the first 15 minutes.
Wolves were forced into a change 20 minutes from time when the injured Pollett
made way for Sean Connelly.
Norwich also needed to make a quick double-change with Chris Llewellyn and
Daryl Sutch replacing the injured Easton and Kenton respectively.
Green was finally called into action with 10 minutes left when Malky Mackay
brought down Blake on the edge of the box, but Mohammed Camara's free-kick was
comfortably saved by the youngster.
Green foiled Blake two minutes later and Newton and Rae shot wide as Wolves
tried in vain to grab a priceless winner.
That nearly arrived in stoppage time when Colin Cameron unleashed a volley
from the edge of the box, but Green tipped his shot round the post.
