WOLVES REPORTS 1999-2000

Swindon 1 Wolves 2

Carl Robinson scored only his second goal of the season to give Wolves their first away win in six matches.

Robinson struck five minutes from time in front of the travelling Wolves fans with a thunderous volley.

Former Everton striker Michael Branch provided the cross for Robinson, who let fly from the edge of the area and the ball flew across Swindon goalkeeper Frank Talia's goal and into the Swindon goalkeeper's top right-hand corner.

Three minutes earlier Swindon's Andy Williams seemed to have rescued a point for the Robins.

Williams bundled in Chris Hay's cross at the far post after the ball had been flicked on by substitute Giuliano Grazioli.

Both sides were desperate for the points but for two very different reasons and after a dire first half it was Wolves' Kevin Muscat who gave the visitors the lead.

Muscat's shot from the edge of the area deflected off Swindon defender Alan Reeves after Neil Emblen's cross, the ball looped over Talia and into the bottom corner of his goal.

But Swindon came back fighting and had chances of their own.

After 66 minutes Hay's left-foot volley was tipped wide for a corner by Wolves goalkeeper Michael Oakes.

Last week's two-goal Wolves hero Havard Flo was substituted after 36 minutes for Lee Naylor after Flo had hobbled off with what looked like a leg injury.

And after 69 minutes Naylor was also stretchered off following a goalmouth melee.

The last 10 minutes saw a frantic finish - as well as the two goals there were chances at both ends.

Swindon defender Sol Davis was booked for a foul on the impressive Branch two minutes after the former Everton man had laid the ball off to Steve Sedgley, who chipped just over Talia's crossbar.

Former England international Andy Sinton hit a half-volley after 73 minutes which was beaten away by the Swindon goalkeeper as Wolves looked to extend their lead.

Talia dived low to his left to keep out the 25-yard cannonball and divert it for a corner.
