Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has already identified the players he believes will help his team make an instant return to the Premiership next season.
The Hornets' relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship was confirmed when they drew 1-1 with Manchester City late last month, giving the Vicarage Road chief extra time to plot their summer transfer campaign.
Watford have been linked with Crystal Palace winger Jobi McAnuff, West Ham defender James Collins and Norwich forward Robert Earnshaw.
"I know which players I want," Boothroyd said. "Whether or not I get them is a different matter.
"Now, we are in a position where we are not as attractive to potential signings as a club who has been promoted from the Championship, as we were last year.
"It was difficult to bring in players last summer, but we will look to go for a different type of player this time around."
Watford's final match of the 2006/07 season sees them take on Newcastle at Vicarage Road on Sunday, but Boothroyd is already looking much further ahead.
When the new Championship campaign begins in August, Watford will be one of the favourites for promotion, and Boothroyd is determined that his team are not caught cold.
The 36-year-old continued: "I have started the process already. I have made a few calls, and I have set up a few meetings. The chief executive (Mark Ashton) is also making some calls on my behalf.
"We are putting our feelers out. We have been watching for a while in terms of trying to get organised for the new season.
"It is not all a mad rush to do it. We have our targets, and now the job is to work on each player one by one, and try to get them in."
