England boss Glenn Hoddle and former Gillingham favourite Steve Bruce were
forced to pull out of making guest appearances in Mark O'Connor's testimonial
against Tottenham at Priestfield.
Hoddle had to withdraw just hours before the game because of a "prior
engagement" while Bruce failed to gain clearance from Birmingham with the Blues
still involved in the race for the First Division play-offs.
England under 21 chief Peter Taylor and Millwall boss Billy Bonds turned out
for the Kent club in front of a crowd of just over 3,000, raising around £20,000
for O'Connor, who was forced to quit the game earlier this season due to a leg
injury.
Spurs won the game 3-1 with two goals by Algerian midfielder Moussi Saib and
another from Andy Sinton before Leo Fortune-West pulled one back for the Gills
with two minutes left.
