Tottenham defender Michael Dawson insists there is no problem with Robbie Keane returning to take over as captain but they need 11 leaders every week to get out of trouble.
Keane, who rejoined Spurs last week, was skipper during the goalless draw against rivals Arsenal at the weekend and will get plenty more opportunities as Ledley King cannot play matches in quick succession.
Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas have been previous vice-captains and Dawson himself has also been named as skipper for a match during the campaign.
"I believe whoever leads us out leads by example and Robbie did that," Dawson said.
"But when you cross that line there are 11 players out and everyone has to lead by example.
"You know that Keano is very vocal and he encourages people if they need to be told."
A point against Arsenal means Spurs are still in 15th place in the Barclays Premier League, although they were encouraged by the home debut of £14million midfielder Wilson Palacios.
"Wilson was fantastic," Dawson said.
"I stood behind him and he took a lot of pressure off us. He was winning balls and they were not really getting to us too often. That was down to Wilson and the rest of the boys in midfield."
Keane, despite failing to mark his second debut with a goal, was pleased with his arrival leading to a clean sheet, their first since Boxing Day.
"We can build on this," he said.
"Considering the position we're in, it's important that we get amongst teams, and the only way we're going to do that is by starting on the front foot."
