Clint Dempsey has urged Fulham to reject all offers for Jimmy Bullard or risk undermining their season.
Bullard is the source of feverish transfer speculation with several clubs, including Bolton, Blackburn and Middlesbrough, interested in the England midfielder.
Bolton had a bid turned down earlier this week after failing to match Fulham's £5million valuation of the player, but the club would be persuaded by the right offer.
Dempsey, however, believes it would be a mistake to let the 30-year-old go with the Cottagers having established themselves in the top half of the table.
"It's important to keep your best players to help continue our run of form - you don't want to be changing much," said Dempsey.
"Jimmy's a guy who has a lot of energy. He's good in the locker room and has good banter.
"He's the guy that likes to make people laugh, he gets around the pitch well, is a good passer of the ball and it's good having him here.
"It's one of those things - I understand he has to do what's best for him and his family.
"But he would be a big miss, any of our players would be a big miss
"We're playing well right now, have a good team, a small but effective group and we're trying to make the most of it."
Dempsey has made a significant contribution to Fulham's nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, a sequence that has established the club in the top half of the table.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who will feature against West Ham at Upton Park on Sunday, started the season on the bench but by November had ousted Zoltan Gera from the line-up.
He has struck four goals, including a brace in last month's 2-2 draw with Chelsea, and has become a key member of Roy Hodgson's side.
"It's good to be back in the team and to be able to contribute," said the American.
"The team is playing well and feels good to be part of a side that's doing well.
"The two previous seasons I've been here have been relegation battles and it's good to be playing good football in a good team.
"For me the turning points was scoring at Portsmouth in late October. It got the confidence going and I tried to push on from there.
"I had a good game against Newcastle a few games later which got me into the starting line-up and since then I haven't looked back.
"I've been trying to perform in games and in training to show the manager I'm hungry."
Dempsey has enjoyed a busy week following a fresh addition to the family and he would like to celebrate the new arrival with a goal against West Ham.
"It's my first baby, a girl called Elyse. She was born on Monday 12th. It's been good so far, no problems sleeping," he said.
"It would be awesome to score at Upton Park for the new baby. Have I got a new celebration ready? We'll see."
