Manchester City playmaker Elano has held talks with manager Sven-Goran Eriksson over his future role at Eastlands.
The Brazilian made an eye-catching start to life in England after a £8million move from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer.
But as City's form has slumped since Christmas, so has Elano's and his future in the Premier League has been thrown in to doubt.
Elano, though, has discussed his role in the City team with Eriksson - who is also said to be facing an uncertain future - and is confident he will enjoy a more consistent campaign next season after being handed a wide role over recent weeks.
"I can always express my feelings to the manager," Elano said in the Daily Star. "I told him I cannot play a physical match against another player.
"I told him I need my own space. Physically, I can't compete directly against an opponent.
"My form dipped because of a muscle injury, but I'm playing now where I like to play and I'm getting back to my best.
"I'm looking forward to being even better next season, because now I know what it is like in England.
"I will be prepared for the difference in pitches, the weather, everything."
While Elano is anxious not to be dragged into the debate about Eriksson's future, he remains grateful to the Swede for signing him.
"The manager is an excellent person, " said the Brazil international.
"I owe him a great deal. When I tell him my worries, he listens to what I have to say.
"There was a spell when I was left out of the side and I was not happy. I explained my situation to him and he gave his reasons.
"The manager is someone I respect. As a player we have to leave the other business to the chairman and the board. We are only responsible for what happens on the pitch."
City still have a slim chance of clinching a European place and entertain Portsmouth on Sunday.
Elano is determined to help the team finish the season in style.
He said: "I understand the club have never had more points in the Premier League. That is good but we need to win our remaing games if we want to play in Europe.
"I know people always expect me to do well but that is not a problem for me.
"I will always work hard for the team and give my best as I feel settled.
"I am happy at this club and so are my wife and family. When my mother came over to visit, she did not want to go back.
"So now England is my favourite national team after Brazil."
