American striker Eddie Johnson has flown to England to open transfer talks, believed to be with Fulham.

The USA national squad are currently holding a training camp ahead of friendlies against Sweden and Mexico.

But Kansas City Wizards ace Johnson has been given permission to leave the camp in California and is heading to Europe to talk terms.

The club believed to be closing on his signature are Fulham as they have been holding talks with Major League Soccer, who own the registration of all footballers that play in America's top-flight.

Johnson is 23 and is rated as one of the best players in his homeland, but he now seemingly feels it is time for him to try his look abroad.

Benfica, Real Sociedad and Derby have all previously failed to land Johnson, who has scored 11 goals in 31 internationals for the US.

Now Fulham look set to seal the deal as Roy Hodgson bids to overhaul his squad with just over a fortnight of the transfer window left to play with.
