Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has "vehemently denied" allegations that he insulted a disabled fan during a match at Old Trafford.
Andy Wild, a wheelchair-bound United fan, claims Hendrie told him to, "Get up out of your wheelchair," while warming up during Villa's 3-1 loss on 13 January.
Wild claims the comment was made after a section of the United crowd taunted Hendrie.
"Hendrie reacted and shouted insults back," he said. "I called out to him: 'You're a professional footballer, you should be able to rise above it.'
"That's when he told me to get out of my wheelchair. I was too shocked to say anything else but if I could have got out of my wheelchair, I would.
"I decided to contact the police because disabled fans should not be mistreated."
A spokesman for Aston Villa Football Club said: "We have spoken to Lee about the allegations and he vehemently denies them."
Greater Manchester Police are investigating the allegations.
"Police are continuing to investigate reports of abusive comments and gestures at the Manchester United versus Aston Villa match at Old Trafford on Saturday, January 13," said a spokeswoman.
"The reports were made shortly before 7.10pm that night and investigations into the incident are ongoing."
Hendrie, the subject of reported interest from Blackburn this week, has not been interviewed by police.
