Leicester and Wolves, who had conceded 103 Premiership goals between this
season, failed to break the deadlock in a tense Premiership relegation battle at
the Walkers Stadium.
Odds were on offer at 8-1 beforehand of the game finishing goalless but
neither side had the know-how and creativity to find a way through.
A share of the spoils was sufficient to take Wolves at least temporarily out
of the bottom three but Leicester have now gone 13 league matches without a
victory.
Leicester had been beaten 4-3 at Molineux after leading 3-0 in a game of
kamikaze defending earlier in the season.
But there was never a chance of there being a repeat goal feast in the return
meeting with clearcut chances at a premium.
It was a game that neither side knew they could afford to lose and it was
reflected in the dominance of the respective defences.
Leicester had most of the play territorially and most of their inspiration
came from the fit again Muzzy Izzet who had been sidelined for two months with a
calf problem.
But Wolves fought as if their lives depended on it to claim only their fourth
away point of the campaign with Alex Rae a key figure.
Leicester made most of the early running and the first shot on target came
from Steffen Freund after 16 minutes but his dipping volley was comfortably
collected by Paul Jones.
Steve Guppy did well to squeeze a cross into the Wolves area from a narrow
angle but James Scowcroft looped his header wide.
Jones also went down to his right to cling onto a low shot on the turn from
Paul Dickov but again it was a relatively easy save.
It needed a goal-line clearance from Lee Naylor to prevent Leicester from
taking the lead after 33 minutes.
Guppy's powerfully driven cross saw Paul Dickov beat Jones to the ball and
send in a back header which looked destined for the far corner of the net but
Naylor twisted and managed to hook the ball clear.
Izzet decided to test Jones from 25 yards out but his rising shot was straight
at the Welsh international.
Ian Walker showed his quality in the 39th minute when he made a superb
one-handed save away to his left to keep out a glancing Kenny Miller header from
a Kennedy centre.
Dickov and Alex Rae were then involved in an angry exchange in which the
Leicester player appeared to aim a head-butt at his fellow Scottish
international although the way the Wolves midfielder went down as if pole-axed
was not justified.
Two minutes before the interval Guppy hit the post after sliding in at full
stretch to meet a cross from Riccardo Scimeca while Jones kept out a shot on the
turn from the competitive Dickov.
City defender Jordan Stewart made a bad error on the half-way line to allow
Henri Camara a run at goal early in the second period but Matt Heath came to his
colleague's rescue with a sliding tackle.
Carl Cort, who had scored his first goal for the club against Fulham last
week, got on the end of a Kennedy cross but his header drifted wide.
The opening exchanges of the second period were littered with mistakes and the
more game went on it looked as if one goal would be enough to settle the issue.
Dickov did well to turn and send a deep looping cross to the far post but
Guppy was unable to keep his header down.
There was a rare moment of excitement when Bent delivered a cross to the near
post into the path of Dickov but he was unable to keep his shot down when under
pressure from Craddock.
A cross from Guppy momentarily had the alarm bells ringing for Jones but the
ball drifted just past his far post after he had been forced to back-pedal.
Substitute Les Ferdinand almost found a way through for the home side but his
header from a Guppy cross was turned around the post by Jones.
