Wantaway striker Dean Holdsworth advertised his services with a sweet second-half header against visiting Ipswich at the Reebok.
The former Wimbledon hit-man, currently looking for a move back to the
capital, nodded home a pinpoint Claus Jensen cross to end more than an hour of
deadlock.
But Ipswich refused to lie down and Matt Holland blasted home an equaliser
with just five minutes left on the clock to salvage a deserved share of the
spoils.
The two sides were relatively evenly matched throughout the 90 minutes.
Holdsworth's strike partner Eidur Gudjohnsen squandered Bolton's first chance to
take the lead in an action replay of Bolton's goal.
Jimmy Phillips provided a well-placed cross but the Icelandic forward headed
the ball over the bar.
Ipswich replied via Jamie Clapham, who had a wicked free-kick saved by
Wanderers keeper Steve Banks.
Bolton's French midfielder Franck Passi tested Banks' opposite number Richard
Wright on 19 minutes with a fierce 20-yard strike.
But Wright dived low to his left and stopped the Frenchman's goal-bound
effort.
And moments later the Ipswich keeper did superbly to keep out a
close-range Holdsworth shot.
England Under-21 star James Scowcroft almost opened Ipswich's account with a
neat turn and shot from the edge of the penalty area, and David Johnson went
close on the stroke of half-time after cheekily dispossessing Passi.
Bolton came out after the break with all guns blazing and really piled the
pressure on the visitors.
Michael Johansen capitalised on a defensive error by Tony Mowbray and fired in
a shot but Wright pushed the ball out for a corner.
Passi then saw his 49th minute rocket drift narrowly wide of the left-hand
upright and Gudjohnsen made an impressive run into the Town box before seeing
his shot saved by the in-form Wright.
Bolton's persistence finally paid off when a typically accurate delivery from
Jensen was met by the advancing Holdsworth to put the home side ahead.
However,
the visitors proved they were not beaten and came back with a spate of
counter-attacks before Holland picked up the ball inside the area and rifled it
into the back of the net.
Although Bolton arguably should have held on for three vital points, no-one
could deny Ipswich deserved something from the game.
