Wolves kick-started their push for Coca-Cola Championship promotion by beating Hull at Molineux.

Striker Jay Bothroyd opened the scoring ahead of midfielder Seyi-George Olofinjana adding a second before half-time.

And Bothroyd was on target again in the early stages of the second period before Nicky Forster powered home a Tigers consolation.

Going in to the game on the back of two successive defeats, it was Wanderers who were on the attack in the early stages but Andy Keogh's glancing header lacked the power to trouble Tigers goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

In the 10th minute it was Keogh who latched on to Olofinjana's booming clearance to outstrip defenders Damien Delaney and Andy Dawson, only for the Irishman to see his shot saved by Myhill.

Then, from 25 yards out, Darren Potter's shot was also collected by Myhill ahead of Wolves taking the lead in the 19th minute following a left-wing combination involving Keogh and Michael McIndoe.

And after the latter spotted Bothroyd lurking unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box all that was needed was a pinpoint centre from McIndoe and for the striker to head back across Myhill and home.

Forster was released by Dean Windass and produced Hull's first shot of the game 10 minutes later but Jan Budtz saved easily.

In the 38th minute the same pair combined but Forster blazed wide ahead of Olofinjana doubling Wolves' advantage when he nodded home Michael Kightly's right-channel cross by the post.

Hull made two substitutions in time for the second half as Lee Peltier and Ricardo Vaz Te were replaced by Dean Marney and Stuart Elliott.

But the Tigers' rearrangement proved to little avail as Wolves soon increased their advantage when Keogh hit the byline and centred to his left for Bothroyd to tuck home his second of the afternoon and the seventh of his season.

Forster pulled one back for the visitors on the hour though as he muscled his way past centre-half Gary Breen to power the ball past Budtz, who was deputising for Matt Murray after Wolves' first choice suffered rib and hip injuries during the weekend's 2-1 defeat at Sunderland.

Next, Marney burst clear to threaten Wolves once more but this time Budtz parried the shot.

Hull manager Phil Brown played his last card as Ray Parlour was swapped for substitute Michael Bridges in the 78th minute.

And Wolves boss Mick McCarthy responded as Stephen Gleeson replaced McIndoe and Stephen Ward replaced Bothroyd before Olofinjana squandered the chance to stretch the Black Country club's advantage when he could only apply the faintest of touches to head Kightly's right-wing corner wide.

Ward's name was taken by referee Phil Joslin in the 85th minute after being adjudged to have used a high foot on Myhill who needed extended treatment after the collision.
