Carl Cort had the last laugh in the battle with his brother Leon as he scored a late winner to give Wolves' play-off push further momentum.

A bizarre own goal by Rob Edwards in the 82nd minute looked to have rescued a deserved point for Hull but Cort connected sweetly with Rohan Ricketts' cross to give Wanderers their third successive Coca-Cola Championship win.

Jeremie Aliadiere had put the visitors ahead after 28 minutes with his first goal for Glenn Hoddle's side but Leon Cort, Carl's younger brother, had equalised just after half-time.

Hull, who also missed a penalty, were the better side for much of the contest but Wolves, whose second goal came through Kenny Miller on the hour mark, will not care a jot as they moved to within two points of the top six.

The Tigers, meanwhile, have pressing concerns nearer the foot of the table having failed to win any of their last four games.

The hosts, winless at home in 2006, had the better of a lifeless first half and will wonder how they went in a goal behind.

Jon Parkin, who has scored four times in his first seven matches for Hull since his move from Macclesfield, had a low shot smothered by goalkeeper Stefan Postma before two efforts from on-loan West Ham midfielder Mark Noble went off target.

The recalled Stuart Elliott then powered a 25-yard effort straight at Postma minutes before Aliadiere put Wanderers ahead against the run of play.

Young Wolves midfielder Mark Davies played Aliadiere, on loan from Arsenal, through down the inside-right channel and striker ran on to place the ball to the right of goalkeeper Bo Myhill and into the corner from just inside the area.

Miller then had two chances to double the away side's lead but he first saw a low shot saved before heading over from eight yards.

Green then came to the fore. He sidefooted a 40th-minute penalty wide after Joleon Lescott was adjudged to have fouled Parkin in the box before prodding a shot wide minutes later after running late into the box from midfield.

Leon Cort provided Hull with their equaliser six minutes into the second half. Green's cross was only half-cleared by the Wolves defence and the ball looped to the defender, who volleyed into the top corner from 12 yards out.

The hosts enjoyed parity for just eight minutes, however, as Wolves regained the lead through Miller.

The striker capitalised on a mistake by Alton Thelwell to run 40 yards, exchange passes with Aliadiere on the edge of the box and then drive an unforgiving first-time finish into the bottom right-hand corner.

Returning captain Paul Ince had a quiet game for the visitors but almost got his name on the scoresheet in the 69th minute when he thrashed a shot wide following a lay-off from the effervescent Aliadiere.

Hull looked physically drained in the final quarter and their tactic of lumping balls up to Parkin and substitute Darryl Duffy was failing to trouble Wanderers' rearguard.

But they were given a lifeline with eight minutes left when Edwards hooked a hopeful cross from Ryan France into his own net from an acute angle near to his own by-line.

However Carl Cort had the last laugh when he volleyed in at the far post from Ricketts' deep cross with just seconds left.
