A Wimbledon penalty via Jason Euell in the 73rd minute was cancelled out by
one for Fulham when Luis Boa Morte scored from the spot 11 minutes later.
A draw was no good for Wimbledon's faint hopes of stealing a play-off spot,
and it put paid to Fulham's hopes of setting a new Division One record for
points won in a season.
Fulham goalkeeper Maik Taylor rushed out of his goal to bring down Kevin
Cooper and Euell made no mistake with his penalty kick. But Boa Morte himself
was brought down in the 83rd minute and with regular penalty taker Louis Saha
off injured, the new Portuguese cap converted.
Fulham fans were in festive mood with flags, balloons, and tickertape, with
the presentation of the League trophy due to follow the match.
As ever, Wimbledon, the classic party poopers, struck to destroy Fulham's
dream of 106 points for the season. Fulham had most of the game and played all
the clever stuff, while Wimbledon stuck to basics and defended well enough to
keep the home side at bay.
As early as the second minute Boa Morte used his speed to break through, but
goalkeeper Kelvin David saved. A minute later Boa Morte rounded David, but Rob
Gier was on the line to head away.
Fulham kept up the pressure with Lee Clark, Steve Finnan and Sean David all
going close. But goalkeeper Davis made some key saves.
Wimbledon had a few chances of their own, the best being a Euell shot that
Taylor just about saved at the second attempt.
