FULHAM REPORTS 2000-2001
Picture Frandsen (left) celebrates his goal with Charlton.

Fulham 1 Bolton 1

Fulham striker Luis Boa Morte was sent off after an ugly clash with Bolton's Robbie Elliott as tempers boiled over in this top-of-the-table First Division clash.

Boa Morte retaliated after being fouled by Elliott and the players appeared to spit at each other.

The Fulham hitman was shown the red card for the 80th-minute clash. Elliott was booked as were fellow defenders Colin Hendry and Paul Warhurst.

Two points thrown away will be Fulham's verdict on a match they dominated but failed to take their chances.

In a one-sided first half they had to wait until the 40th minute to get the goal they deserved. Barry Hayles scored from 15 yards, but Per Frandsen equalised for Bolton in the 51st minute.

The Danish international hit a curling 25-yard free-kick past Maik Taylor.

Fulham attacked from the start with Louis Saha hitting the post in the fourth minute and John Collins did the same in the 23rd minute when it looked easier to score.

Simon Charlton and Dean Holdsworth cleared efforts off the line with Tommy Wright, on loan from Manchester City, having a nervous debut in Bolton's goal.

The visitors, who have a good record at Craven Cottage in recent years, and whose away record this season is better than at home, pushed forward more in the second half.

Even so, their defence was at full stretch with the pace and movement of Saha and Hayles.

Kit Symons, Lee Clark and Hayles all put chances wide and Collins hit the bar from a free-kick that was moved forward as a result of Bolton's dissent.

Bolton, with just one win in the last six games and under pressure from Blackburn for the second spot, will be pleased with the point but they were extremely lucky to get it.
