Fulham manager to be Jean Tigana saw his side grab a point with an 88th-minute
equaliser at Prenton Park.
But it was a far from convincing performance by the Londoners who are now
effectively distanced from the play-off zone.
Tranmere look likely to lift themselves into the top half of the table when
they went ahead in the 72nd minute.
David Kelly netted from a cross by sub Gary Jones following good work by Wayne
Allison and Alan Mahon.
Andy Melville hammered home the equaliser with an angled shot from 12 yards,
following a cross by Lee Clark.
It was in the main a disappointing game, although there were chances at both
ends.
Tranmere might have had a penalty after 16 minutes when Scott Taylor seemed to
be held back by Melville.
Geoff Horsfield and Steve Finnan missed good chances for Fulham and Barry
Hayles, when put through by Steve Hayward, missed the target in the 38th
minute.
Kelly missed a couple of opportunities for Rovers and Allison saw a goalbound
header brilliantly turned aside by keeper Maik Taylor in the 34th minute.
Melville was only just wide with a header for Fulham from an Eddie Lewis
corner a minute after half time.
Tranmere should have gone ahead on the hour but Allison miskicked in front of
a gaping goal.
Tranmere's Dave Challinor and Gareth Roberts both collected second half
cautions. Fulham skipper Chris Coleman was booked for dissent.
Fulham threw on subs Kevin Ball, Bjarne Goldbaek and Paul Peschisolido after
falling behind and looked a better outfit in the closing minutes when they duly
snatched their ninth away draw.
