FULHAM REPORTS 1999-2000

QPR 0 Fulham 0

QPR were left to rue missing three glorious chances as they were forced to settle for a point in a scrappy West London derby with Fulham at Loftus Road.

Rangers had the lion's share of the Division One match, but leading scorers Stuart Wardley and Chris Kiwomya were kicking themselves after squandering opportunities to win the match.

On 22 minutes Ian Baraclough swung over a corner, Mikkel Beck flicked on and Kiwomya somehow managed to head over from just a couple of yards out.

Worse was to follow on 34 minutes. Jermaine Darlington's cross from the right picked out Wardley completely unmarked on the penalty spot, but the 13-goal midfielder hurried his effort and volleyed woefully over.

Fulham's best moments in the first half came from a lively Barry Hayles. On six minutes he jinked past Darran Ward to put Karlheinz Riedle in - but the German fired inches wide.

The Cottagers' Bjarne Goldbaek forced a save from Lee Harper with a dipping 35-yarder. But it was Rangers who looked the better side - and Beck's free-kick on 33 minutes curled round the wall and forced a save from Maik Taylor, while Ward fired just over.

The second half was just three minutes old when QPR carved out another gilt-edged chance. Richard Langley stormed past two defenders to get to the by-line before pulling back a perfect cross for the head of Kiwomya who nodded it into the ground and over the bar from the edge of the six-yard box.

Fulham battled hard with more graft than craft, but Harper coped admirably with the high crosses into the box.

The visitors' best chance ironically came from a Rangers player. On 75 minutes Lee Clark curled a cross in from the right, and with Terry Phelan waiting to pounce QPR substitute Paul Murray dived desperately to head the ball inches past his own goal.

Hayles almost nicked an undeserved winner two minutes from time when he got in front of Karl Ready to poke goalwards, but Harper got down well to make the save.
