A 79th minute Mark Bright goal was enough to maintain Charlton's Premiership
push in a dreadful match against struggling Huddersfield.
Town's Steve Harper was the busier of the two goalkeepers. In the 13th minute,
he had to fling himself across the goal to turn aside a stinging 20-yard effort
from Mark Kinsella.
And, late in the half, he could only push out another long range shot from
Kinsella but did well to smother Mark Bright's follow-up shot.
Sasa Ilic, who was making his home debut, was not put under similar pressure
but Charlton had a big let off in the 21st minute when a Grant Johnson header
smacked against the crossbar following a corner from Jon Dyson.
Six minutes after the break, Huddersfield had to thank Julian Watts for a
goal-line clearance to keep out Robinson's close range shot.
In a mistake-ridden match, Charlton had another chance in the 71st minute but
Stuart Balmer volleyed over the bar from 12 yards.
It was a rare moment of accuracy when Charlton scored their winner in the 79th
minute when a powerfully struck cross from Shaun Newton was met by Bright who
beat Harper with a fierce header from ten yards.
Two minutes later Newton shot wide after a tremendous Clive Mendonca shot had
cannoned back to him off the bar.
