Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has revealed his interest in bringing Charlton defender Hermann Hreidarsson to Fratton Park.
Hreidarsson has also been linked with a move to West Ham following Charlton's relegation from the Barclays Premiership.
Redknapp said: "He is a player I like very much. West Ham, I heard, bid £2million for him not long ago and he's another one to watch out for."
Meanwhile, Luke Varney is determined to play in the Premiership with Charlton - after turning down the chance of top-flight football with Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old joined the Addicks for an initial £2million earlier in the week as boss Alan Pardew plots a return to the Premiership at the first attempt.
Pardew faced competition from other clubs for the player who scored 25 goals last season for Crewe despite missing part of the campaign with a broken toe.
"My agent also spoke to Middlesbrough and Norwich, and there had also been some interest in me in January," said Varney.
"But when I saw Charlton's ground and heard about how many fans had bought their season tickets for next season already, everything was going in the right direction and it just all appealed to me."
The arrival of strikers Varney and Chris Iwelumo has been seen as a sign Pardew is planning for life without Darren Bent, although the England international is on holiday at the moment and nothing is expected to happen imminently.
Bent's 15 goals last season could not save the club from relegation, although their form since Pardew took over at Christmas puts them among the favourites for promotion from the Championship next season.
"As soon as I knew there was interest from Charlton I knew that was the club that I was going to sign for," added Varney on the official website, www.cafc.co.uk.
"The club wants to bounce straight back to the Premier League - and as soon as I knew the ambition was there, there was no question that I was going to sign."
