Darren Bent will concentrate on strengthening his troublesome knee before considering where he will be next season.
The 23-year-old striker is expected to leave Charlton following their relegation from the Barclays Premiership, but he fears a recurrence of the injuries that limited his action during the last campaign.
"The last couple of months has been a battle to play in the games that I have," he said.
"The important thing is to keep that strong so I don't break down again."
Bent has been linked with West Ham, Tottenham and Liverpool but no decision will be made on his future imminently as he is due to go on holiday on Wednesday.
The former Ipswich striker insists getting fully fit for the next campaign is his main objective at the moment. Even with his knee problems he scored 15 goals last term.
"I'm going on holiday to rest the bones and make sure everything is okay, I'll sort it all out when I get back," he added on Sky Sports News.
"The season has only just finished now so I haven't really listened to what's going on, I'm just keeping my head down, working on strengthening my knee and getting fit for next season, wherever that may be."
Working on his fitness means he will miss out on adding to his two England caps when Steve McClaren's side play over the next month.
"I don't want to play in those games and miss two months of next season," he added.
Bent has not ruled out staying at Charlton - and he hopes they get back in the top flight as soon as possible regardless of whether he is there next season.
He added: "They've done a lot for me in the last two years, I'd like to think I've repaid them with a few goals but who knows?
"At the moment I'm not thinking about next season, we're obviously disappointed that we just got relegated. We've got to look past that now and try to get back into the Premier League, that's our main objective."
He added: "Hopefully we'll get out of the Championship next year, we're going to give it 100%."
