Gary Megson believes David Moyes can reach even greater heights as Everton manager.

The Toffees travel to Bolton in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday, on the back of a series of disappointing results in recent weeks.

Draws at home to Stoke and Wolves in the league have left Moyes' side - who have finished fifth the last two seasons - floundering in mid-table, while a record 5-0 defeat to Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday brought their unbeaten run in the competition this year to an end.

Questions persist as to whether Everton will ever break into the top-flight's big four - and Moyes has frequently been tipped to move on, possibly as a successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

But as far as Megson is concerned, Moyes is far from finished on Merseyside.

"I don't think it's for me to say how I see his future, but he hasn't reached a glass ceiling yet," said Megson.

"Everton is a huge football club. I had the honour of playing there 30 years ago, and it is a fantastic football club.

"David is a good friend of mine and he has done a terrific job at Everton. I think they are doing brilliantly and will continue to do so."

Megson offered his sympathies to Moyes after the Scot complained about the fixture congestion that left his squad facing away trips to Benfica, Bolton and then Tottenham in the Carling Cup - all within the space of six days.

"It's a by-product of qualifying for the Europa League - you play your games on a Thursday and if you do okay in the Carling Cup as well it can cause you a problem in terms of the amount of games you have to play," he said.

"The Europa League doesn't always have the huge teams in it - with the squads of 35 or 40 top-class players - where you can pick one team in the Europa League and another in the Premier League.

"There is a lot of chopping and changing that needs to be done, and the position David is in is difficult.

"We play three games in six days now - and if results don't go right for us then maybe we'll be doing the same in three weeks time. It's just a fact of life over here."
