In-form Crewe clocked up a fourth successive win to hit Blackburn's play-off
hopes.
Colin Cramb struck with just 10 minutes to go to give Crewe the points in a
game otherwise dominated by Blackburn.
But Rovers simply couldn't find a route to goal - their passage blocked time
and time again by the outstanding performance of Crewe goalkeeper Jason Kearton.
Kearton's super saves ran into double figures as Blackburn attacked almost
non-stop to have no fewer than 29 attempts at goal.
But Ashley Ward and Matt Jansen continuously fired blanks, Ward heading over
as early as the second minute to set the tone on an afternoon of complete
frustration for Blackburn.
Three times Jansen missed golden chances and early in the second half Keith
Gillespie was thwarted by two stunning Kearton saves in the space of 60 seconds.
Kearton had his moments of good fortune but he deserved them.
Ten minutes from time he dropped a shot from Jansen right on the goal line but
Ward couldn't force it home and Crewe went straight to the other end to show
Rovers the way to go.
On the break away Cramb kept his composure to net in clinical style from just
inside the box.
But Blackburn still had chances to equalise and grab a point.
In the final minute Ward again headed high and then in injury time Blackburn
felt they should have had a penalty, Damien Duff appeared to be fouled by Rodney
Jack but home appeals for a spot-kick went unrewarded.
