Big-spending Blackburn faced the wrath of their fans after failing to overcome
the First Division's bottom side.
Boos and jeers rained around Ewood park after a woeful performance from a
Rovers side looking to recover following a depressing run of three straight
defeats.
But there was to be no joy here, with Swindon showing enough fight and
determination to suggest that their battle for survival may not be as doomed to
failure as it appears.
The Robins rode their luck, especially when two headers from Blackburn
strikers Nathan Blake and Ashley Ward bounced off the woodwork.
Sloppy defending allowed Blake to find total freedom, but he somehow managed
to direct a header from Jason McAteer's cross wide from five yards.
It just about summed up Blackburn's afternoon because in spite of having the
lion's share of possession and some 14 attempts at goal they never really looked
like scoring.
Swindon goalkeeper Bart Griemink had to look lively when Rovers pushed forward
with a purpose early on but he did well to keep out headers from Christian
Dailly and Damien Johnson.
Griemink's defenders protected him well in the second half, but it got easier
and easier for the visitors as Blackburn ran out of ideas.
Indeed Swindon could easily have nicked it.
They thought they should have had a penalty when Chris Hay claimed for
handball against Callum Davidson.
Then nine minutes from time they spurned a glorious chance.
A fine move down the left ended with a teasing cross; Charlie Griffin got
himself in position but ballooned his shot high when he really should have
scored.
It was a let-off for Rovers whose chances of winning promotion straight back
to the Premiership are slipping by the game.
