BIRMINGHAM CITY REPORTS 2009-2010

Birmingham 0 Sporting Gijon 0

Birmingham were held to a 0-0 draw by Spanish outfit Sporting Gijon at St Andrews.

Blues manager Alex McLeish handed a debut to former Liverpool full-back Gregory Vignal in the pre-season friendly, which was watched by more than 10,000 supporters.

McLeish started with a 4-5-1 formation, with Cameron Jerome playing as a lone striker.

Lee Bowyer was on the receiving end of a few crunching tackles, while Keith Fahey had one of the best chances of the game, drawing a fine save from visiting goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar on 25 minutes.

Joe Hart played the first half in goal but was replaced at the interval by Maik Taylor.
