Birmingham withstood a stern test from fellow promotion hopefuls Huddersfield
to leave the McAlpine with a share of the points.
The home side, one place below the visitors in the First Division table before
the start of play, took the game to Birmingham from the outset, with on-loan
striker Alun Armstrong firing just over from 10-yards after only two minutes.
Jamie Vincent then charged into the Birmingham half before releasing Clyde
Wijnhard whose snap shot was well blocked by Thomas Myhre.
Birmingham could have taken the lead had Marcelo made better contact on his
close-range effort when Nico Vaesen fumbled Martin O'Connor's left-wing
free-kick.
But Huddersfield were soon back on the offensive as Wijnhard turned his marker
on the edge of the area, only to send his shot wide.
Mhyre was kept busy in the second period and did well to turn away Vincent's
20-yard free-kick before Ken Monkou sent a looping header wide of the right-hand
post, and then Wijnhard had his goal-bound header blocked by Darren Purse.
Purse again rescued his side with a timely challenge on Vincent after the
defender burst into the area from a Wijnhard pass.
Mhyre blocked Chris Beech's curling shot from 18-yards and Purse again did
well to thwart Vincent just as he was about to shoot after racing clear from
Chris Lucketti's pass.
Birmingham's best chances after the break fell to Bryan Hughes and substitute
Paul Furlong, but neither could find the target.
